ATTENTION, ATTENTION: We’re Falling into Dissension

Where there once stood a pond of great reflection,
Now, I see only a pool of misdirection.
Created so we turn all our attention 
Towards the invention of contention.

“ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!”
We better build a stronger connection.
Or we’ll all end up in detention.
“Now raise the tension, but make sure not to mention…”

“…that war we all pretend to abhor.”
It’s such a chore to settle a score 
While we try to adore all the gaudy decor.
And tell folklore that this war is not upon our shore.

Now I must mention
That all of the tension
Is just an ascension
Of pure dissension.

“Hang him with a rope…
…today hate and envy elope!”
Should have read Mike Pence’s horoscope
Before ‘Merica fell down that slope.

Ope, but I come with hope.
Much like the Pope,
We will not sit around and mope.
Listening over and over to the same troupe.

Remove the kaleidoscope
For we do not need to take their dope. 
It’s time to stand up and say “NOPE!”
For this time we can do more than just cope.

“GET OUT AND VOTE!!”
I want to scream from the top of my throat
For I am not here to promote or dote.
I just want to keep my country afloat.
